"How many Coconuts?--The Famous Monkey, Sailors, and Coconuts Problem"

Abstract: We will explore some of the interesting historical material related to this problem and we will present a few techniques for solving this type of problem.

Biography: Professor Kuenzi received his Ph.D from the University of Iowa.  He began his teaching career in 1959 as a high school mathematics and physics teacher.  He served as Chairman of the Mathematics Department of UW-Oshkosh from 1976-1991 and served as co-editor of the mathematics problem department for the journal School Science and Mathematics (1976-1986). He has been actively involved in the construction of the MAA Wisconsin Section High School Math Contest since 1978. His interests include mathematical recreations, discrete mathematics, math education, probability and statistics.
