Professor Alex Smith

"From Perspective Art to Projective Geometry"

Abstract: By following the historical development of perspective art, we can understand the emergence of the mathematical subject that we now call projective geometry.

Biography: Professor Alexander Smith is the Chair of the Mathematics Department, UW-Eau Claire. He earned his Ph.D from the University of California at Berkeley, B.A form Oxford University. His areas of interest are: Complex manifolds, HyperKahler Geometry and Symbolic Computation. He has been teaching at the UW-EC since 1990.
